Take the art works of Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Tintoretto and Caravaggio, the operas of Verdi and Puccini, the cinema of Federico Fellini, add the architecture of Venice, Florence and Rome and you have just a fraction of Italy's treasures from over the centuries.

T-SHIRT tells all.
That's right, a t-shirt with inbuilt intelligence! UC3M (Carlos III University in Madrid) has developed an intelligent t-shirt, designed for use in hospitals, to monitor certain body functions and conditions.

EVERYTHING I SAW WAS GONE
For the past months, a series of violent storms have been pounding the US. The
"It just didn't seem real", said one eyewitness. "I can't describe what I saw," said another. "You could hear it. That classic rumble, the train, and all of those other things
that you hear people talk about."
Heavy rains have aggravated the situation. Rivers have flooded, lightning has set buildings on fire, and hailstones the size of golf balls have caused extensive damage.
A state of emergency has been declared in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma. The army has been called in for rescue operations.

extreme weather conditions have claimed hundreds of victims. On Friday, the death toll had reached 280. Last week alone, more than three hundred tornadoes were reported. On Wednesday, 128 people were killed, just in Alabama. Entire areas in the town of Tuscaloosa have been levelled to the ground.

This video is from the EF4 tornado that went through Tuscaloosa, AL on 4/27/11. It was taken from the University Mall parking lot. Probably the closest video to the storm your going to see.
Now write a test on what happened in Liguria last week in no more than 80/100 words.

This is England
This morning you saw the film 'This is England'. It's out of doubt that it is a violent subject with violent people. Anyway even if it is obvious that things are heading only one way, i.e. towards violence, I think it was worth watching especially for young people like you.

ZERO TOLERANCE
The new policy of a school in Cambridgeshire has sparked controversy. Headmistress Jenkinson-Dix appears, not entirely unlike Dolores Umbridge, set to "raise standards".
A host of new rules have been introduced, as well as zero tolerance for breaking them. A ban on smoking is pretty standard, as is requiring politeness towards teachers. Other rules go much further.

2. Sen. Barack Obama says it is time for Americans to 'reclaim the American dream' and anything is possible http://youtu.be/OiskE1Jsr6A
What do you think of these two speeches?
What is, in your opinion, the best speech among those you have already read in this blog?

R.E.M. Call It Quits
'We walk away with a great sense of gratitude,' band says Wednesday, bringing to close a 30-year career.
After 30 years, 15 studio albums, dozens of iconic music videos and boundary-pushing tours (and just four core members) — not to mention a sphere of influence that extends from the nascent days of college radio to the buzzy blogosphere of today — R.E.M. are calling it quits.

Amazing speech by Steve Jobs
Here are selected passages taken from a speech given by Steve Jobs at Stanford University. I think it's worth reading...
- You have to trust in something — your destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing the dots will connect down the road, it gives you confidence to follow your heart; even it leads you off the well-worn path. And that will make all the difference.
