That's right, a t-shirt with inbuilt intelligence! UC3M (Carlos III University in Madrid) has developed an intelligent t-shirt, designed for use in hospitals, to monitor certain body functions and conditions.
This wireless system monitors heart rate and body temperature, as well as other vital signs, in an entirely non-intrusive manner.
It can also determine whether a patient is standing up, lying down, seated or running. It has a system that functions like a GPS and enables those monitoring the patients to know their exact whereabouts.
With some modifications the t-shirt could also be used to monitor patients in their own home, thereby reducing the time that they would be required to remain in hospital. It could also be used to detect early signs of heart anomalies in athletes.
