CAR THEFT

Last week in the US, a woman reported to police that she had had her car stolen. In
the report that she gave the police, she mentioned that there was a car phone inside
the car.

The police thought they would try ringing the phone to see if anyone answered. To
their surprise a man answered the phone. The quick-thinking policeman told the man
that answered, that he had seen an advertisement in the newspaper that the car was
for sale and that he was interested in buying the car. He explained that he could pay
cash and required the car urgently.
The two agreed to meet and the unsuspecting thief was arrested.

What could you have done to trick the car thief into meeting you?
Discuss alternatives to putting people in jail to teach them to respect the law.

  1. I could have said the same things.
There are a lot of alternative ways to teach people how to respect the law, for example volunteering, forced labor...

  2. Oh, poor thief! I think he was a beginner and he wasn't conscious that new generation cars are so technological! In my opinion that policeman had the best idea infact I can't make another trick up!
Instead of putting the thief in jail I think It will be better If he helps our society with useful work... Maybe one day He will find a job and won't steal at all!

  3. I think that I would do what the police man did.But I never thought that it would work, and that the man was so stupid!
As far as I am concerned, putting people in jail is the only thing that we can do to teach them to respect the law. But,when their penalty is going to finish, we can make they do some lessons about something that they could do out of jail,so that they can do a work, and be useful for the comunity.

  4. I'll say to the man that he is in serious trouble and he is been tracked since the moment of the theft and if he don't want to aggravate the situation he must deliver to the police.

2)To make sure that people respect the law is necessary know what the justice really is . Promote a good information campaign, in particular in schools, would be a good solution.

  5. I also would have called the car phone.
Even if I don't think I invented the story about the article in the newspaper.
I think an alternative to put people in prison is to do their volunteer.

  6. I, after have called the phone, would create roadblocks to block the thief.
The people that commit a crime should forced labor for community, in order to understand their error. Who commit murder, in my opinion, should remain in prison for life, to suffer like the parents of the victim.

  7. I don't think that there are other ways to meet the thief.
Putting people in jail often teach something to them, but sometimes they don't understand what is the right way to live the life respecting the law, so they go out of the prison with the same behavior.

  8. I think that I would done flyers where I write:"Who has stolen a car go to prison to withdraw 500 euros."In my opinion it is important to respect the low and who doesn't do it the prison is only chance.

  9. 1) I think that even I will try to call the thief to make with him a meeting to see the car and buy it ... but it's quite difficult that this can happen.
    2) In my opinion there's no valid alternatives to putting people in jail to punish them because make them pay the freedom it's too easy and corporal punishments is too heavy; maybe it can be possible give them some day, in wich them they do a job, useful for the society.

  10. I think that I would have acted as the policeman. In fact, knowing that there was a phone in the car ,I would call it. In my opinion some alternatives to prison is doing lessons in the primary school classes to eliminate definetively the problem.

  11. I think I would have done the same thing that this policeman did...even if the thief wasn't so intelligent in answering the phone and going to the meeting without suspecting anything. I think that, if all criminals were dumb like this guy, it would be much easier to put them in jail!! :)

  12. If I would was the thief I would never answered the phone and however this crime is foolish but also dangerous if you are not able to steal a car .The message that needs to arrive at young people is : Never do what you won't done to you .

  13. I think that the thief wasn't very clever because he didn't know that nowadays cars are very technologic and . Instead the policeman was very intelligent. I think I would have done the same things. An alternative to putting people in jail, could be forcing thives to do hard labours.

  14. The idea of the officer was flawlessly genial and amusing. I think that if I was the policeman, I would have never thought such a thing; however, I would have called him and traced the phone so that I could find him.

  15. I think that I would done flyers where I write:"Who has stolen a car go to prison to withdraw 500 euros."In my opinion it is important to respect the low and who doesn't do it the prison is only chance.

  16. I think that if the thief answered the phone I would tell him that he won an high reward
for a contest of cars. So when he came to receive the award, the police would arrest him.
Finally some alternatives in putting people in jail could be high fines or mandatory volunteering for a long time.

  17. Honesly, I don't think I would be so reactive as the police man...anyway the thief wasn't so clever in answering the phone. Furthermore, as reguards teach people to respect law, I think can be a good idea make the violators work for all the society, for example, make them clean the city or something like that.

  18. I think that the policeman had the best idea in order to convince the thief to meet him but he was also very lucky to find such an ingenuous thief!
In my opinion putting people in jail isn't always a good solution, howevewr I think it's a right punishment together with volunteering and making the guilty work for the society.

  19. I think I would have told the car thief that his mother was in hospital because she had had an heart attack.
In this way, the car thief would have gone immediately to the hospital and the policeman, dressed up as a doctor, would have arrested him.
In my opinion, there are many alternatives to imprisonment: first of all, law offending people could be fined; secondly, they could be asked to do social useful works and I think in this way they would discover that there are honest ways to earn money. Imprisonment should be the last resource in trying to correct criminals.
